Editor’s Diary: Post-Launch

I LOVE launch day, and this month was no different. It was Framework’s biggest issue yet—a whopping 119 pages filled with so many wonderful people and summer style! But after the excitement dies down and the sparkle settles, I always find it hard to transition from the end of one issue to the beginning of another. Maybe it’s exhaustion, or just a fear of the unknown, or more likely, a combination of both. Whatever the cause, there’s a slight panic that always includes a bit of “oh my god, we need to pull this off again, what the heck are we going to fill our pages with? What if it’s not as good as last month?” We brainstorm, we worry, we send a thousand emails—or two-thousand if that’s what it takes—we lose sleep, we freak out… you catch my drift.  And by we, I really mean me. Crazy town, party of one please!

But then comes a turning point, where inspiration and endless emails begin to form something a little more tangible, and the vision starts coming together. The articles are drafted, the theme becomes evident, and the big picture is a lot clearer. (Oh, and I can finally breathe a little easier!) With Framework’s third issue sitting pretty on our homepage for the past week, I’m betting that my close friends and family (you know who you are by the endless hysterical phone calls and emails you’ve received) are gloating right now. Why? Well, they got to say, “I told you so” yet again.

Now the next cycle begins, and I know it’ll be just as crazy as we continue to strive for better content and push ourselves even further. But see that photo up there? That’s what launch day feels like—so I’m okay with crazy for now…
